Bulky- this word is perhaps an apt description to the first mobile phones releases to the public in the early 1980s. Motorola Cellphones were perhaps among the first mobile phones of its kind which the market then remembered. The one pound DynaTac model of Motorola was priced at around $3,500 and was released in 1983. There were no Nextel or Metro PCS then. By 1984 DynaTac version 8000X costing around $3,995 was the latest addition to the family of Motorola Cellphones.
By the following decade, the United States would have a million subscribers. By 1991 Motorola released its third phone model the MicroTac Lite costing round $1,000 with passage of time, mobile phones slowly ceased to become novelty but as an essential tool of communications.
AT&T had made several mobile phones even before the advent of Motorola android phones. They were not released to the market as the Federal Communications Commission sat on their license applications.
If the FCC were quick enough to give those licenses, AT&T would have eclipsed the already popular Motorola Cellphones as the first cellphone to be marketed in the United States. .
It took four decades before the FCCC had made these phones available to the market in the U.S. with growing market demand the AT&T were allowed to sell their phones to the public.
In 1987 subscribers for the mobile phone network had breached the 1-million level. The networks become crowded and frequency allocations were increased. The existing cells were divided and mobile phone technology has considerable improved.
FCC also got to change its policies. The feds were not inclined to offer additional bandwidth and did not consent to paying for added splitting cells. They also didn’t build any more cells. By 1987 the FCC has decided to use other existing communication technologies.
Technology particularly among the field of mobile communication is an ever-changing field. New technologies are constantly being discovered and utilized. The rapid changes technological evolution has become a profitable industry. Motorola Cellphones despite being pioneer in the mobile phone market is not resting its laurels. As they say innovation is the key to surviving in a highly-competitive market where brands are releasing new advance models every month.
